Synopsis
Markets have an element of probability. The way things have panned out in the last few weeks, it is likely the bulls will strengthen their case for a sustained comeback. Mind you, we are using the word “sustained”. A caveat, though: President Trump should not fire a fresh salvo. Also, keep in mind that corrections will happen as they are a part of the market. But, at this point of time, it is more important to look at how the fundamentals of a sector are shaping up. While everyone is focused on the GST effect, don’t forget that many sectors are being impacted by the tariffs. So, in the euphoria over GST, don’t forget that the fundamentals of a sector are different from tax rates.
On Monday, even as the Nifty and Sensex came under pressure, market breadth was positive for a large part of the session. This suggests an underlying bullish sentiment (or is the correct word “hope”?) on the street. It is always important to de-link what is happening to indices with what you are planning to buy or sell in the stock market. At this point of time, however, this is even more important. Why are we mentioning this at this juncture?
